The State of Things

Image
Hello!   It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted, and I have to say, it feels good to be at it again, even if this is just a post to update you on my whereabouts. Things have been busy around here.   As mentioned in my last post , we have our condo on the market.   It’s not been as busy in this area as I would like, but still, it’s going.   We’ve hosted several open houses, and we’ve had people make appointments to see it.   No one has yet to make an offer we can accept, but people are looking, and that’s something.   But it’s not just us; other condos aren’t selling either.   It’s simply the market and/or the time of year.   I am confident that it will sell; it’s only a matter of when. In the meantime, we’ve been spending our weekends going to every open house we’re slightly interested in.   We’ve seen some that have potential and many that do not.   Either way, we’re learning what we want, what we don’t want, and what is...

Bob and James: A Purr-fectly Feel-Good Story

I just finished reading A Street Cat Named Bob and The World According to Bob .   I loved them both and highly recommend them if you’re looking for something uplifting to read.   (I have yet to read A Gift from Bob , though that will be first on my Christmas reading list come December.) Simply put, Street Cat is a memoir of how James Bowen and Bob found each other and how they saved each other.   Bowen, a recovering addict, finds a stray ginger cat in his apartment building, whom he takes in.   After several days, it becomes apparent that they were meant to find each other.   Their relationship is a unique one—they work on the streets of London together, ride the bus together, find adventure together, and learn to survive and change their lives together.   Daily life isn’t always easy for them, but together they do their best. A story about a cat (or any animal) always draws me in.   However, Bob’s spirit is unlike any I have read about befo...

Things I Love: Naps!

Image
We all know the drill: when you’re little, you’d give anything not to have to take nap.   You rail against it.   You fight it.   You cry and kick and complain.   You wear yourself out until you just fall asleep, giving into what you were fighting in the first place. When we’re older, we’d give anything to sneak in a nap.   Well, at least that’s been my experience, especially here in the US where we value hard work and perseverance over rest and relaxation (generally speaking). I don’t really remember kicking and screaming and fighting against naps, but man, did I hate the idea of stopping my play in order to take a nap.   But what I hated more was that someone told me to do just that. These days, naps are a luxury.   Catching a little rest in the middle of the day is so rare and so special.   I look forward to and revel in those days when I can actually partake in this glorious ritual.   My naps are sacred.   There are ...

Things I Love: Fall Switchovers (With a Bit of Reluctance)

Image
It’s no secret that I love fall .   But even though I love it, I’m hesitant to head towards it this year.   We had such a hard, cold, snowy, long winter last year that I wouldn’t be sad if I didn’t see any of it for another three years.   Plus, the summer was not all that hot this year—we had perfect weather (sunny and high-70s/low-80s most days) but it’s not the norm.   Usually we have several days (if not weeks) where the temperature reaches over 90 degrees.   So usually, by the time September rolls around, I am ready and looking forward to the cool, crisp days ahead.   But not this year. To be fair, it’s not fall that I’m not looking forward to; it’s the cold, dark days that follow.   January through March is tough for me.   I’d be happy if our winter lasted from December through the end of January and we’d go right into spring.   But that’s not the climate in which I live. With all of this said, I finally decided that life is too...

Office Desk Reorganization [9 Months Later]

Image
Yeah, so I started this post—well, I started taking picture for this post—back in June.   That would be June of 2013.   And now that we’re closer to June of 2014, I thought it would be a good time to finally get this post up.   You know how it is—you start with good intentions of posting something specific, but then other specific things take precedence.   So here we are 9 months later and we’re just getting around to it.   Ah well… The last time I posted about my desk and office space was in 2012 .   My space hadn’t changed that much but I bought an important addition, which made a new post necessary.   Of course, 9 months later, my iMac isn’t so much a “new” purchase but considering I never did post about it, now is as good a time as any. Here’s what I started with: I used to use a laptop, which mostly stayed on my desk.   In the beginning, it did travel upstairs and downstairs, but with the purchase of an iPad a f...
