Tagged!: The One Truth

Here are the answers to the questions posed with the last post:

I spend every Friday evening eating a hamburger and drinking beer at a biker bar in town.

There is a biker bar just up the road from me. It is well-known amongst bikers in the area. However, I have never been to the establishment, though I hear they have excellent burgers. Maybe one day I will go. I spend every Friday evening having pizza and beer with my family.

I was once hand-selected by a government official to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C.

I was once hand-selected to do this, though not by a government official. In 8th grade, four students were hand-picked by teachers to perform this honor. I was one of them.

I once tried out for American Idol.

Caribbean Princess was right when she said that I like to sing but not in front of other people (wow! I’m impressed at what you remember from my blog!). I also have a love/hate relationship with American Idol. I like the idea of it, but what I don’t like is that they tend to choose the same type of people all the time (well, most of the time). I don’t watch it. I don’t care for it.

I have been mistaken for Christina Ricci.

I have been told by a few people that I look like her. Back in college, my hair was dyed dark—I went for dark red and it came out more like a dark purple. This, as well as when she was in her Addam’s Family/Casper days are the times when I got the most comments about this. I can maybe see that we have the same shaped face, but other than that, I don’t really see it. I have never been mistaken for her.

This leaves the one truth:

I am proficient in American Sign Language.

I studied ASL in college as an elective course. I liked it so much that I continued with it for another three semesters. At one point I thought I’d become an interpreter, a speech pathologist, or an audiologist. But I did none of those things. I’ve only used ASL twice in my career as a public librarian, though it’s a good thing to know. We do have a deaf man who comes in every once in a while. I would like to get more involved in this area, but how exactly I don’t know. I’m amazed that after all this time I still remember a majority of the vocabulary and grammar.

Congratulations to Caribbean Princess for winning, not only by default, but also because she knew the correct answer! This makes you awesome, though you won that award a long time ago.

  1. Thanks for sharing Kanalt.I really enjoyed figuring out the truth and as you can tell I read your blog in earnest. hehe :-)
It is strange. Once I read something I tend not to forget it. Which is why I write stuff down. I think I have a photographic memory (which is how I managed to always get 8 hrs sleep every night in medical school)!
You are awesome too! I like the new floral template.

  2. That's funny, in high school I tried to dye my hair dark purple and it came out a dark maroon-ish red -- just like Angela on My So-Called Life. We should have traded!

  3. CP - I better never write anything that I don't want repeated back to me. ;)

Dasha - Ah, My So-Called Life. Great show. I don't think I was going for anything in particular but that's what it came out as. We should have traded!
