Knitted Scarves 2014

I don’t often have time to knit.  I started back in 2007 and haven’t really progressed very much, simply due to the fact that I have very little time to devote to it, and when I can squeeze in some time, I spend it working on things I know I can accomplish, rather than learning new stitches.  I do hope to progress at some point.  But for now, this is where I am, and I’m accepting it.

With that said, I did get to complete three projects this year.

Well, actually, now that I look back, it would seem as though this first project was started in 2013.  So I’m even more behind on posting about my projects than I am on completing them.  But that’s okay, too.

I knitted this scarf for a friend of mine.

I bought a yarn that I knew she would like (pink being the only requirement) and didn’t follow a pattern.  I simply used the knit and purl stitches, knitting for 10 rows and purling for 2 (if memory serves me correctly).

Here you can see the pattern up close:

This year, I completed two more scarves, both the same yarn and both the same pattern.

One went to my mother and the other to my mother-in-law.

This is the “Sea Cucumbers” pattern from Sheryl Thies’ Ocean Breezes: Knitted Scarves Inspired By the Sea.

They all came out pretty well, if I do say so myself.

I’m currently working on a “baby” blanket for my niece.  She’s four.  She’ll probably turn five before it’s complete.  But my older niece was six when she finally got hers.  I am using the same blanket pattern as before, just a different yarn color.

Here’s hoping it will be finished before too long!

What projects (not necessarily knitting) are you currently working on?

  1. I think they're both great! I also think you did a great job picking out a color that had a pink feel without being too pink.

... and my scarf is also very well made, with great stitches, and I think it's beautiful! ;)

    1. Thanks! Yes, I knew pink was the color to go with, but I wanted to incorporate other colors as well. So that yarn was a good pick. I hope the scarf continues to hold up well. It would be a shame if it unraveled on you in the dead of winter. ;)

    2. So far, so great, and I don't foresee any problems with it at all! I'm looking forward to wearing it in only a couple of months!

I agree, the yarn was a great pick! :)

  2. I just finished knitting a wool sock for this winter. I don't really feel like knitting another one . . . which is a problem since I think both of my feet would appreciate the warmth :) I love the color pattern of the scarf you knitted for your friend.

    1. Oh, I would love to advance to socks! I do have yarn and a pattern for some. I just haven't gotten then yet. Yes, I would say that 2 socks are better than 1. ;) Thanks for your comment!

  3. Uh, I just wrote a comment, I was logged off and when I tried to log in the comment disappeared... How frustrating!

Anyway, I was saying that I'm a knitter too! Loved the first scarf, multicolored yarns are so fun... might steal your idea! I'm currently finishing a cardigan with no buttons for the not-too-cool/not-too-warm seasons. I love thinking I might wear it afterwards!

In my comment I also said that I've been considering creating a special section for knitting projects in progress on my planner. I think I saw someone do that, but I can't remember where I saw that... Is it just me or it feels weird to plan/organize things related to fun stuff/hobbies? And, at the same time organizing is fun in itself! I don't know. May I suggest a post on how do you organize/plan your fun things?

  4. Oh no! I hate when Blogger eats comments. That used to happen to me all of the time, but now I make sure I'm signed in before commenting. That seems to help.

Ooo, I'd love to see some of your work. I'm not as advanced to even attempt a cardigan. Awesome!

I have a separate binder for my knitting projects, supplies, and patterns. You should be able to find it by clicking on the "knitting projects" link on the right side. I have separate books for several topics, but not all of my hobbies have separate books. In fact, I'd say that creating books based on subject is a hobby!

I love suggestions for blog topics! I will definitely put that on my list. I may need to think about what exactly to highlight. Thanks for the suggestion!
