Planner Sighting at Starbucks

Source

The other day, I went to Starbucks for lunch.  As I settled myself into one of their comfy leather chairs, I noticed a couple at a table.  They each had laptop with them, each doing work of some kind.  After a second look, I noticed an open planner next to the girl’s laptop.  From where I was sitting, I couldn’t see much detail.  However, it looked as though it may have been a DayTimer or Franklin Covey (definitely not any Filofax binder).  It appeared to be an A5 style, perhaps something similar to this or this.  I don’t know if it was an open style binder or a snap style, but it definitely was not a zip binder.  From what I could tell, the inserts were two pages per day, something similar to this, though they could have been a page per day.  It was a little difficult to tell.  I tried to sneak a peek as I walked by, but I didn’t want to be too obvious in my nosiness.  I thought about going over and saying something, but it’s that whole “they’ll think I’m a nutter” fear that kept me from doing so.  And I would have taken a picture to post—even contemplated it for a mere minute—but didn’t feel that it would be right to post a picture of something that belonged to someone else without their permission or knowledge.  I can tell you that the planner was big and hefty, was being used along side of a laptop (I wonder how she integrated digital and paper planning, if at all), and was in use at the time of the spotting.  I just hope she kept it free from coffee spills, though on the other hand, it would have given character to the day’s page(s).

  1. Haha! I'm glad I'm not the only one who considers approaching random people about their planners!

And yes, let's hope she keeps it away from the coffee, despite any potential character adding... then again, I stupidly left my binder in the kitchen while the DH was prepping dinner last week- now I have soy-sauce stained pages. Oops!

  3. I would have approached them and expressed my interest along the lines of, "do you mind my asking what kind of planner that is? I've on the market for one and..." I've always wanted to run into someone with a Filofax.

    1. Hmm, I never thought of dng it that way, as "research" planners for my own use. I may have to try that the next time.

  4. I love it when I see a planner in use out in public! I very rarely have the nerve to speak to the user, unless I'm already speaking to them anyway. In those situations, I can't resist asking about their planner and I'm afraid of coming across as a total weirdo!!

    1. Me too! I get very excited when I see planners out in the "wild," but rarely talk to people about them. In this case, I might have said something if she hadnt been sitting with someone else. I'm very self-conscious about these things. ;)

  5. I've seen two recently a pocket Breast Cancer Filofax, which a lady had in the Hospital where I work and today when I picked my Daughter up from High School early as she had toothache there was a man in reception with a Black A5 Finsbury :-)

    1. Nice - two great sightings! Whenever I see planners out in the wild, they are almost never Filofax. I guess that's because they're not a native US brand. Or maybe all of the Filofax users are home and online. :)
