Listing Myself

There is a lot of talking about making lists recently.  The Perpetual Student and Imy have created a 365/30 Lists project that sounds very interesting.  (Click here or here for the details.)  It sounds like a fun project.  However, I have yet to decide if I will join in.  I often don’t do blog challenges and the like (as much as I may want to) because I don’t usually get to post anything more than once a week.  And I know myself too well—if I accepted blog challenges, I would put too much pressure on myself to get it done, and do it well, that it would no longer be fun.  I’d be afraid of letting people down (even if it’s only in my imagination), and I would stress over the whole situation.  So it’s better for my health to just do what I can with it without providing any commitments.

In the days to come, I might partake on some level.  That remains to be seen, especially since I have several Philofaxy All Stars posts forthcoming.

With all of this said, I will be working on some lists for myself.  My lovely sister-in-law bought me List Your Self: Listingmaking as the Way to Self Discovery by Ilene Segalove and Paul Bob Velick (available directly through the publisher or at Barnes and Noble and Amazon).

The book gives you instructions on how to use the lists provided.

The book is then broken down into topics (Yourself, Daily Life, Business, Change, Culture, Men and Women, Greater Truths, Health, Growing Up, and Suddenly…).  Within each topic, there are different lists that you complete.

Here are some examples:

Clearly, I have yet to work on any of these lists.  Once I have completed some of them, I will be back to share some snippets with you.

In the meantime, happy listing!

  1. I love that! It looks like a lot of fun with probably some very interesting results. But be careful what you find out!

Years ago when I was homeschooling my children when we did a lot of lists for writing class. One day I had my daughter write a list of 5 ways my son and I were alike. I don't know what prompted that assignment. But I still remember one of the reasons: "They both hate noise unless they're making it!" I laughed so hard because it was funny and SO TRUE!

    1. Patty - Yes, it will be interesting to see what transpires, as I'm sure some of the lists will make me consider things I never have before. It's funny how it often takes other people to point things out to us.
