Office Desk Reorganization [9 Months Later]

Image
Yeah, so I started this post—well, I started taking picture for this post—back in June.   That would be June of 2013.   And now that we’re closer to June of 2014, I thought it would be a good time to finally get this post up.   You know how it is—you start with good intentions of posting something specific, but then other specific things take precedence.   So here we are 9 months later and we’re just getting around to it.   Ah well… The last time I posted about my desk and office space was in 2012 .   My space hadn’t changed that much but I bought an important addition, which made a new post necessary.   Of course, 9 months later, my iMac isn’t so much a “new” purchase but considering I never did post about it, now is as good a time as any. Here’s what I started with: I used to use a laptop, which mostly stayed on my desk.   In the beginning, it did travel upstairs and downstairs, but with the purchase of an iPad a f...

Mud Season: A Book Review

Image
Source I recently read Mud Season by Ellen Stimson .   Not one, but two coworkers brought this book to my attention, given my love of all things Vermont .   But it wasn’t enough for me to put the book on hold from the library; this was one book I had to buy. Even if you don’t have a soft spot for Vermont, even if you know nothing about it, it’s a good read—it’s comical and just fun.   The subtitle of the book says it all: How one woman’s dream of moving to Vermont, raising children, chickens, sheep, & running the old country store pretty much led to one calamity after another .   And that’s exactly what happens. In short, Ms. Stimson and her family decide to uproot their lives in St. Louis and move to rural Vermont where she has grand ideas of running a small farm and an old country store.   What she finds, however, is that life doesn’t go quite as planned.   From the time they make the decision to move, they run into one issue after an...

Organization in January

Image
The start of every year brings about a desire—maybe even a need —to organize a few things.   I always start with the same three things: planner organization and updating, sorting through the list of blogs that I read, and purging old files and setting up new ones for the new year. Each January I start my year with setting up my planner for the new year , archiving old inserts , and doing a general sort-through of all of my planner gear.   This year I went a little further and revamped my entire system , which meant revamping my entire collection—this is a procedure of “no binder left behind,” a purpose for every binder.   This setup/revamp can happen in a day, or it can take me a few days, depending on how much I need to change up.   Sometimes it doesn’t happen until after January since I typically don’t archive inserts until a month later.   I guess it all depends on how big of an itch it is to reorganize everything. The second thing I do is sort thro...
